An avid perennial gardener, landscape designer Sandy Wilson has created gardens in urban and rural landscapes throughout the Washington, DC area. She is passionate about plants and design, and believes that a beautifully designed landscape enhances both your home’s appearance and your sense of well-being.
Sandy works closely with clients to develop distinctive landscape and garden designs that are tailored to their specific lifestyles, interests and needs. Her starting point is to collect information about the client and the site, including the style of home and the surrounding neighborhood. She then develops creative design ideas and solutions that are refined through additional conversations. Sandy’s goal throughout the design process is to engage the client and ensure that the final design meets or exceeds their expectations.
Sandy is comfortable with a variety of landscape styles, ranging from the very traditional to the very contemporary. She specializes in plant-intensive designs that mix a diversity of layered plants, including natives, with hardscapes using natural materials such as wood and stone. She pays close attention to the amount of maintenance that a landscape will require as well as its impact on the environment.
Sandy holds a graduate certificate in landscape design from George Washington University. She also earned a Certificate of Merit in Healthcare Garden Design from the Joseph Regenstein, Jr. School of the Chicago Botanic Garden.
Sandy served for nine years on the Board of Directors of the Friends of the National Arboretum, which supports the mission of the U.S. National Arboretum. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Foundation of the Virginia State Arboretum, located at the Blandy Experimental Farm near Boyce, VA.
